Each year, the program allows a limited number of organizations of all sizes and interests to raise funds. The marathon team provides the charities with the tools and knowledge they need to create a fundraising vehicle around the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and 5k. To see a complete list of this year’s beneficiaries, click here. “We are proud that nearly a quarter of a million dollars was raised as a result of our event,” said Race Director Ralph Staph. “The generosity of Ohioans speaks volumes, and these dollars will support amazing local causes.” The marathon will always have a fundraising component and online tools that make giving that much easier for generous runners and participants. “The Concussion Legacy Foundation (CLF) is proud to be a charity partner of the Cleveland Marathon. Thanks to the support of the Cleveland Marathon team, CLF runners have raised over $220,000 during the last two years to support our vision of a world without CTE, and concussion safety without compromise,” said Joey Cain, Development Coordinator, The Concussion Legacy Foundation. “The Cleveland Marathon’s many race offerings provide our supporters with a fantastic opportunity to champion our cause while engaging in physical activity, which is an important component of life-long brain health.” Leigh Goldie, Executive Director, Empowering Epilepsy, added "We have been a proud charity partner with the Cleveland Marathon since 2017. The partnership has allowed us to promote epilepsy awareness and grow our Northeast Ohio community as well as fundraise to support our ongoing programs and services. The Cleveland Marathon allows members and supporters of our community to set and achieve realistic goals through participating in the race.” Registration will soon open for the May 2022 events, and new charities can submit applications beginning in November through the marathon’s website, clevelandmarathon.com. The marathon has helped raise over $3 million for local charities since its inception in 1977. In 2007, Cleveland Marathon Charities, a 501c3, was formed to organize and financially reward school, church and other non-profit groups that show their support of health and fitness through running by their active involvement as participants, volunteers or spectators.
